USA Today Review
USA Today is one of the top newspapers in the United States, fighting only The Wall Street Journal for supremacy in sales. As a national newspaper it is seen and read by the majority of the population in all the corners of the country, reaching every state.
In the entertainment section of the newspaper a few movie reviews make their way into the hands of many readers around the country. Christmas in the Clouds, the romantic comedy from 2001 has also been one of the movies to be featured in the pages of the giant newspaper.
The USA Today review of Christmas in the Clouds starts by describing the plot of the motion picture and a few of the characters. The action in the movie itself is set in a ski resort (which in reality is the Sundance Resort in Utah). The main characters are Ray, the young owner and manager of the resort and his kooky father.
The plot of Christmas in the Clouds revolves around the desire of Ray to impress an anonymous hotel-critic that will be coming to the resort, which could make the difference between the success and utter failure of his establishment. At the same time, around Christmas, Ray’s father decides to invite up a pen pal he has never met face to face to the ski resort for a vacation. The plot then turns to the old-fashioned device of mistaken identity, which accounts for most of the comic moments in the film.
The USA Today review applauds the use of only Native American characters and actors which are or could easily pass on as Native Americans and very much appreciates the writer/director’s view on these people, presenting them in an easy to digest manner, avoiding stereotyping any of the characters created for this Christmas themed comedy.
