Christmas in the Clouds Awards
Christmas in the Clouds is a holiday themed romantic comedy released in 2001, perfect for a fun filled time with the family around Christmas.
The plot of the movie tells the story of a young ski resort manager who is about to receive a visit from a hotel-reviewing group. The ski resort he owns depends on the opinion that the anonymous critic will have about his establishment in order to attract more tourists. Everything depends on the review of the anonymous person who is about to come, as a bad one could damage the already struggling establishment.
The comedy factor of the movie is granted by a case of mistaken identity, which is the most common and effective device usually used in movies. The anonymous hotel-reviewer is mistaken for the lady friend from New York of the manager’s father. This creates a situation that is bound to set the tone for laughter.
The most interesting thing about the movie is the characters themselves, all of which represent different personalities, each funny in their own way. However, most of these characters are Native Americans and the resort itself is a Native American establishment.
Christmas in the Clouds has earned a few awards. It was first presented at the Sundance Festival as an independent film. In the Austin Film Festival of 2001 the motion picture won the Audience Award in the category for Best Competition Feature Film.
The Santa Fe Film Festival of 2001 has also brought the movie and director (who is also responsible for writing the plot) Kate Montgomery another awards. Christmas in the Clouds won the Luminaria award for Best Native American-Themed Film.
Awards of Christmas in the Clouds are not many, but the film still stands proud as a decent comedy with Christmas cheer and a lot of holiday spirit.
