Christmas in the Clouds reviews

Christmas in the Clouds is a 2001 romantic comedy set in a struggling ski resort around the holiday season. The story revolves around a case of mistaken identity between an anonymous hotel-reviewer and the love interest of the ski resort manager’s father, a pen pal from New York whom he has never met.

There have been many reviews of Christmas in the Clouds, many of which present it in a good light. One of the most important and, at the same time, the highest score received was due to the brilliant film critic, Roger Ebert. Writing for the Chicago Sun-Times Ebert recognizes that there are many other such movies with a similar plot and with more high-tech pictures, but still grants a good score for the overall good cheer.

Carrie Rickey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reviews Christmas in the Clouds as a universal comedy that manages to present the same problems and follies regardless of ethnicity. Ken Eisner of Variety offers an opinion about the wonderful scenery presented in the movie and appreciates the mix up between characters which stand to make the comedy what it is.

A review by The Hollywood Reporter states that the specialness of the motion picture is derived especially from its treatment of those of Native American ethnicity, presenting them as more than a stereotype, sharing the same adventures as anyone in a comic atmosphere.

Reviewed by The New York Times and the San Francisco Chronicle, Christmas in the Clouds seem to impress every notable publication with the overall feeling of holiday cheer that bursts out of every moment in the whole 96 minutes.

The Chicago Tribune review does not grant a very high grade to Christmas in the Clouds as it critiques bad acting as well as bad writing, taking away the holiday feeling and turning it into nothing.
